It’s time for a fresh new mat Pilates routine! This video gives you a quick look at what we’ll be doing in class in our new Align, Balance, Core sessions from June; designed to build full-body strength, support mobility, increase flexibility and improve posture.
You’ll see a nature inspired, flowing sequence of movements with a mix of grounded strength work, mobility, and core-focused exercises. I’ve included modifications where possible, so you can move at your own pace. Watch the video on Youtube below🎥👇
What This Routine Will Do for You:
This ABC (Align, Balance, Core) sequence is designed to do far more than just stretch and strengthen. Each movement is chosen to help you:
1. Release tension where your body holds it most
Start grounded and gradually open up the spine, hips and shoulders. This helps reduce stiffness, ease everyday aches, and improve posture, especially if you sit or stand for long periods.
2. Build deep core strength
This isn’t about flattening your tummy, but waking up your deep stabilisers the muscles that protect your back, support your balance, and help you move with ease, confidence, and control.
3. Improve balance and coordination
Through movements that challenge stability, both on hands and knees and in dynamic transitions , you’ll train your nervous system to respond more efficiently. Great for preventing falls, boosting confidence, and staying agile as you age.
4. Reconnect breath with movement
Using breath as your guide, each transition becomes smoother and more intentional. This reduces stress, enhances control, and helps you access deeper range and flow with less effort.
5. Strengthen your back body safely
With swan-inspired movements and gentle extensions, we activate the often neglected posterior chain (think glutes, mid-back, hamstrings). Essential for posture, mobility, and reducing injury risk.
6. Improve spinal mobility and hip freedom
From rotations to side bends to flowing stretches, this routine encourages healthy movement through your entire spine and hips, promoting flexibility, flow and freedom in your everyday life.
7. Closing meditation
As the pace slows and the breath softens, you’ll ease into a closing meditation that helps shift your nervous system into ‘rest and repair’ so you leave class not just stronger, but calmer too.
